Hey Its me Joey Booth over at MOJO Skateboard Shop in Johnson City Tn.

I have had this shop a very long time.  I really love coming into my shop each day.  I cannot wait to see who stops in.  Will it be a Brand New customer?  Will it be an old cherished customer from the early 1990's when I first opened to stop in and say Hello.  I never know and that is what makes it Fun.
I know some people could care less ive been opened for almost 30 years.  But that's OK.  this is my accomplishment, and I love it.
 A lot of people shop on the internet,  thinking they are saving $1 or $2.  That's ok too.  I don't blame them.  times have changed,  Everyone wants to buy their Fun on their phone and the internet. I know that's lots of fun.  Push a button then magically something you saw a small picture of arrives at your house 2-5 days later.  A Big brown truck brings you a box full of skateboard parts you had seen on the internet.    That sounds like way more fun than walking into a old school skateboard shop.  Who would wants to do that anyway.  Just Some old guy that skated back in the early to mid 1970's (did they even have skateboards back then?)  Greets you as you walk in.  Says Hey!  How are you doing today. or Sure is a nice day out today,  you looking for anything in particular?  Yes that sounds awful.  Much better to push a button then get your stuff in a few days.
 OOPS  they did not say I needed Griptape.
Oh man,  the wheels need bearings.
How do you get these bearings into the wheels?
 How tight do you screws the screws down?
How do you put this griptape on the deck.Y

Well its coming up to 28 Years Selling Skateboards in the Tricities area, including Kingsport, Bristol, Johnson City, Erwin, Greenville and about a 100 mile Radius around our home base in Johnson City, Tn. When I started out with Decks in 1990 i had maybe 5 skater kids in the neighborhood. I had skated some in the early 1970's. Around 1974-75 to be exact. My first skateboard was a Clear Orange Plastic Shark Skateboard. I was 8-9 years old and I loved that board. My brother and I shared it. We also got a Huffy Thunderroad BMX style off road BMX bike. Along with the other neighborhood kids we built ramps, Drt trails in a vacant lot that had grown up. I will assume it to be one of the first BMX trails/track made specifically for BMX bikes. CIRCA 1975. Man we had a blast. The best time to ride was right after a big spring or summer rain. We would spray water out of puddles in the road and slide on the dirt trails in the mud. Those were some good time. We had a small crew. about 5-6 of us on any given day. Riding the roads of Cimarron!

MOJO Skateboard Shops first T-shirt design from 1990 Look for the Hidden items!

THE CITY.  I never really named this design, but this is what I refer to it now. I spent countless hours perfecting this picture. It was hand drawn, over the course of several weeks. Detailed with a .05 millimeter pilot pen on heavy card stock.  THis was to be my very first design for a shirt design for my then fledgling Rock and Roll T-shirt Store.  In this blog we will examine this shirt design.  First thing, all Black and White.  I did this by design and because making it one color was the cheapest way to make my dream come true.  One color in silk screening mean only one screen and on one screen charge.  And visually to me one color is more appealing and gets your attention.  My idea was a White shirt with Black ink.  Vision achieved!  Next off my list.  The subject matter.  I added many items to my picture.  I will list them and you can find them.  Back of a 1 cent penny, world trade center building, UPS truck, Ripleys Believe it or not, Grateful Dead Bear, Nod to Salvidor Dali, nod to MIRO, clock with exact time of drawing, and the 2nd appearance of Our very own Mr MOJO, the headhunter.  I only printed 24 of these classic shirts originally.  Over the years I have reissued it with very little modifications.  This design is by far still my favorite.  Look over it and see if you can find my list of items hidden in the picture.  Or better yet some not listed.  Thank you for looking and reading.  Pass this along with your friends.  JOE at MOJO!

The skateboarding and Longboarding scene has been steadily going in the tricities areas of Tennessee over the past 20 years. Mojo skateboard shop opened over 20 years ago in 1990. We have seen the skateboarding community grow from 5-6 skaters in the local area to 100's if not 1000's of skaters over the years. The latest type of skateboards are the long boards. They have been around since the 1960's surfboard 

scene in California. Seeing a bit of popularity in the mid 70's. But in the last 4 years MOJO skateboard shop has brought it back with style to the mountains of upper east Tennessee. We started off w maybe 3 complete long boards with our first shipment from California. We now carry over 12 brands and have at least 40 completes instock at any given time.
